On the new Comedy Central show Weekends at the D.L., they had the strangest combination of guests. Andy Dick and Al Sharpton. Could this be the strangest pair to ever be on TV? Probably. I must it was very funny. As funny as Andy Dick and Al Sharpton could be anyway. I was amused to say the least. Wouldnt you like to see them as crime fighters, though. They could have their own cartoon. Any suggestions on what they should be called? Post comments. So I will be watching the next Weekends at the D.L. just to see who they come up with next. Whoever it is, they will hopefully be as uncomfortable as Andy Dick and Al Sharpton.

Its Blogtastic...

He's Back!!! or... i mean...I'm back. Purely for air conditioning. So I was thinking, what movies are left to come out. I mean after Batman Begins, how can anything live up, right. It turns out there is almost one every week. Surprising. Well lets take a look. Here are the movies I am personally looking forward to for the rest of the summer.

July 8th
Fantastic Four

July 13th
Hustle & Flow

July 15th
Wedding Crashers
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Happy Endings

July 22nd
The Island
November

July 28th
Last Days

July 29th
Brothers Grimm
Night Watch

August 5th
3001 (A.K.A Idiocracy)
Broken Flowers
2046

August 12th
Pretty Persuasion

August 19th
Valiant
The 40 Year Old Virgin

Two major disappointments of the summer are the pushing back of The Weather Man starring Nic Cage and A Scanner Darkly starring Keanu Reeves. The Weather Man which was supposed to come out in April was originally pushed back to early September. It is now slated for October 26th. A Scanner Darkly, which many may have considered my most eagerly awaited summer movie, was pushed back to MARCH of 2006!!! WHAT!? It was slated for the end of July. That's a huge push. Which worries me. Could it just have been to quick a release date for such a complicated movie? Or something worse. What if its bad! Instead, the movie only shows what is going on in the United States. Now, some may say that is to keep it short and sweet but come on!!! Not even a montage. What kind of disaster movie is this!? I mean, actually other this small fact it wasn't that bad. It was really fast paced, which was nice. And it kept me entertained. Although my major complaint, is that there were tons of ridiculous parts. Lets try and keep somewhat believable. Although some might say, you have to suspend reality. True. But that only gets me so far.
Too all the people who are complaining that they don't want to see the movie cause they have seen too much of the Cruise lately. Boo to you! You don't get crazy Cruise in the movie, you get the great actor. Which overall was really good by the way. All around. Dakota Fanning was prefect as well. Although I fear she may soon be the girl in every movie. Which I can not agree with.
This is a movie to either see in the theater or dont see at all. The sound and effects will never be as good as they are on the big screen. I'd say its worth seeing if you need two hours of air conditioning and you dont wanna hang out at the library.

Is it possible...

That a person could take a yellow taxi cab on a given day, at a given time, at a given place and then by pure coincidence get into said taxi cab at a completely different day, time and place??? YES!!! I dont know how. But it is. Last tuseday morning, I took a cab home from JFK. It was around 7:45am. Last night, at 4am I waived down a random cab, and it was the same one! Now how can I be sure. Well this particular cab driver, had a bag of tootsie pops that everyone could grab. Not many cabs have that. Actually now that I think about...NONE have that. Except for this guy. I also happen to remember him. We started talking, and it turns out he has been driving cabs for about 30 years. He said this happened to him maybe 6 times!! The statistical probablity of this ever happening is so tiny, its staggering. I was really floored. Of all the cabs, in all the city.

An Odd Moment...

In both TV and Film history. Odd and hilariously funny. Last night I DVR'ed(the is the verb for using ones Digital Video Recorder to record something) the AFI tribute to George Lucas. I started watching it before I left for work. The first person, after Lucas, to come on stage was William Shatner. That's right, Captain Kirk himself. Seems like an odd choice, since there has always been an on going feud between Star Wars and Star Trek fans. And that's just it. It was hilarious. And of course Shatner started singing at one point. But everyone in the audience seemed surprised when Shatner came out, and that's one of the things that really got me laughing. Is that it was a surprise. I leave you with this...Dancing Storm Troopers. He is not that good of an actor. I just watched the Elizabethtown(the new Cameron Crowe flick) trailer. It looked pretty interesting. But Orlando Bloom just doesn't seem to fit in the lead role. Now, two things. One, its only a trailer so who can really tell. But this brings me to two. I have not seen a movie yet with him in it, where he carries the movie. He doesn't have the acting chops. He is ok, he was good in all of the Lord of the Rings Movies and Pirates of the Caribbean. But I am worried, because if a great director like Cameron Crowe will pick him for a lead role, then who is next.

Was it worth it?

That's what I asked myself when I got home from the movie yesterday. I saw High Tension, a French horror flick and Heights, a drama that takes place in NYC. So most would think, were they worth the money but no that's not what I mean. I mean were they worth the over 7 miles I walked to and from the movie theaters. Well let me tell you what I thought of the movies first.

High Tension: I heard it was good up until the end, and that the ending sucked. It was true. But now thinking back about the movie, I don't remember anything that floored me. This was your typical horror flick in my opinion. One exception to that, and not in a good way. It is a French film, so you would expect subtitles. And in that guess you would be half right, cause the movie is half dubbed and half subtitled. And it jumps between the two at random moments. WHAT? You ask. That's what I asked too. And I got no answer. Except from the guy sitting behind me, who promptly kicked my chair.

Heights: It was good. Not great but good. It did for me what crash did not. It was much more believable and real. Acting was really good. Its just about how fucked up love is and how being happy is most important of all. Worth a rental.

So now why did I walk 7 miles. Well it was a hell of a day out. A hell of a day. The perfect summer day. So walking just seemed like the right thing to do. And really it was. The walk was much better then the two movies I saw that's for sure. Walking back was more interesting due to the intelligent conversations of a man known only as Rick.

When Birds Attack...

Or just sit around, really. So I live on the 3rd floor. So of course I have a fire escape. The fire escape is on the street side of the building. Now on said fire escape, I have a few planted pots. None of which were put out there by me. They were left out there by the people who lived here before me. I never brought them in during the winter. One of them died, one of them looks normal, and the other has dead leaves at the bottom and has grown four times the size on top. Now the one that died. The pot just has dirt in it. Or it did, until my friend noticed a few days ago, there was a bird sitting in it. Hmmm. Thats odd. I figured it must be chillin there for a few minutes. Well I checked again today, and the bird is still there. In the exact same position. Its still alive. What am I supposed to do. What if it has west nile virus, or what if it is sitting on eggs. Then I am gonna have baby birds. Something tells me, this can only lead to bad things.

We can never go home again...

Last week I watch The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the live action british version. I hadnt watch the movie since I was like 10 and it was done in 88'. And I was worried before watching it. Seriously worried. See I remember the movie as a great one. I must have watched it alot as a kid. But I knew that something done in the 80's had to look terrible now. And to be honest it did. But I got into it. And the fact that it looked crappy didnt matter. It was just fun, and I loved it all over again. And even last night. I watched two movies I hadnt seen in a long time and I thought I might not laugh as much. And yet I did. Maybe we can enjoy those old movies even if they dont look great. So maybe you can go home again.

Air Conditioning....Fuck Yeah!

I put in my air conditioning today. And my review will come shortly. I saw this movie at an out of the way movie theater, a non-chain cineplex. Its called City Cinemas 1, 2 & 3. Its over on 59th St. And 3rd Ave. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the movie theater. Based on the exterior of the movie theater I assumed the inside would be dumpy. And while it wasn't the nicest cinema I've been too, the theater was actually quite big, the screen was large and the sound was perfect. While the seats didn't have the rocking feature I have come to know and love, they weren't all that uncomfortable either. This was the third theater I have been surprised by the quality of the interior. I would normally base the quality of the inside by what it looks like from the outside. But this seems not to be true. Now to get to my personal mission. I am going to seek out these theaters that look shabby on the outside but are actually wonderful on the inside(no, this is not a metaphor for life). I have always tried to avoid theaters that look crappy on the outside cause I just assumed the inside was the same. So I will no longer, live my life that way and in fact I will do the opposite. And I cant wait.

Lord of the Blogs: Return of the Post...

Took some time off for memorial day. Anything bad I may have said about Fox and any of its affiliates I take back. Upon hearing the news, I was overjoyed. It made my day. There is even a report I even hugged a TV. Although I deny it to this day. Finally a network took a chance on a show. Lately it seems if you aren't a hit after 8 episodes, you are off the air. If you look back on the great shows, they all started off poorly; Cheers, Seinfeld, Three's Company, the Brady Bunch. So good job Fox, you are a station among stations. Sidebar, WB, Boo to you. For canceling Jack and Bobby. It was a good show and should have gotten more then 1 season. But I do gotta give props to 7th Heaven. Making it 10 seasons, DAMN! And its been up against 86 different shows on other networks throughout the years. Wow.

A Retraction of Sorts...

I have to retract some statements I have made in the past. I have, for quite sometime, been quite sure that the Senator Palpatine of Episode I is not the the same as the Emperor Palpatine of Empire Strikes Back. But I have come to realize I am wrong. The reason I thought they weren't the same is because it all seemed so simple; too easy. But maybe that's it. I mean if I was to sit and watch all six movies in a row, I would be able to tell Darth Vader is Luke's father. No surprise there. It would be just that easy. So I have come to the conclusion that George Lucas isn't trying to surprise. He is trying to give us a history to the greatest trilogy ever made.

(Note: This statement will be erased, if upon watching Revenge of the Sith, it turns out I was correct in my thinking they were not the same person!)

Star Wars; A look back before a leap forward...

Yesterday I watched Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and I loved it. I loved every minute of it. I loved every lightsaber fighting, blaster firing, Gungan slaughtering, pod racing minute of it. I mean strictly from a lightsaber fighting/force powers point of view, these Jedi are the way its supposed to be. And I know, when I watch Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones today, I am gonna feel the same way. Because its Star Wars, and anything that adds to its mythos, I am gonna love. Now both movies have there faults. But so what! Its Star Wars! Its fun and exciting to watch. So the kid was a bad actor. Both Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen, in my opinion. Mark Hamill was no Marlon Brando. I think we all recall the end of Empire Strikes Back. "It isn't true, it isn't true!" But we still loved the first three. If I can fault the first two for anything its the lack of a Han Solo. Where's the badass? The guy who will throw caution to the wind. Who shoots FIRST when necessary. So fault the movies for that but not because they are bad. Because they aren't. They are fun and I cant wait to see the new one. I do NOT have a bad feeling about this! I was on my way home from work and decided to pick up a few things at the grocery store. I was listening to my ipod while shopping. Just as I was about to pick up my last item, a song started. Europe's Final Countdown. For those who watch Arrested Development, you know this is the theme song that plays 97.5%(actually calculated) of the time Gob does magic. So as I was picking up this item, I started laughing and ended up dropping it, thankfully it wasn't easily breakable. Their happen to be someone standing next to me, who gave me the strangest look ever. I just looked at her and couldn't stop laughing. I guess I would be scared a little in her position. It was a little awkward at that point and I nearly dropped my stuff and left, but then realized I might as well just check out being as it was in the same direction.

I love the internet...

And with good reason! When I was younger it seemed to be the way to go. Why watch a movie on a third of the screen, when they can increase it to the full screen. It only came to my attention later in life this was the wrong choice. It turns out, fullscreen cuts out part of the movie. You miss things on the edge of the film. That aint right! I might understantd that with the quality of vhs and televisions of the day, fullscreen looked better. But now with DVD's and HD television, NO ONE can say lets watch a fullscreen movie. Even on a 10 inch monitor I prefer widescreen. It just looks sharper, crisper and it would be silly to think otherwise. Someone once said, of missing the first few minutes of the movie, can u really say you have seen it if you missed part of it. No! Because you are not seeing the movie the director intended you to see. Well the same thing applies to Fullscreen. Can you really have seen the movie if you missed part of it. Whether it be the first few minutes or the edges of the screen you dont see the director's complete vision. So goodbye, Friend. So Long. Parting is such sweet sorrow. Well not really in this case. Not really in any case for that matter. Its either sweet or sorrow...Not Both!!

The End of an Era...?

Maybe. And that's a scary thought. The sitcom format is changed in my mind. And that's all thanks to Arrested Development. Quite possibly the greatest sitcom of our time. All the actors are great. Each week I struggle to pick a favorite character and each week I decide there is something I love about every one of them. The writing is amazing. Each episode is riddled with references from the past episodes and things that will come up again in later ones. But each episode still stands alone as hilarious. Why is this show in danger of being cancelled then? I don't know!! It shouldn't be. Is it because it doesn't follow the traditional sitcom format? Maybe. Is it the lack of a studio audience, telling you when the jokes are? Doubtful, look at Malcom in the Middle, that's successful. There is simply only one reason I can think of. People are stupid and lazy. Stupid because they'd rather watch Joe Millionaire , where they try and convince six sluty women that a bag of rocks is a millionaire. And lazy because people won't commit to a sitcom after one episode. Maybe it isn't doing well because it takes more then a few episodes to get to know the characters. Believe me though, the time you put in pays off.
So America, don't be stupid and lazy. Watch Arrested Development....And be...a Bluth.

Boo to Fox...

And all of its subsidiaries. I saw Fever Pitch today. The movie was decent and my review will come later but I have something to complain about big time. And no it wasn't the two mice I saw in the theater...It was a commercial, sort of. More of a short but it was a total promotional plug for Fox's new show, American Dad(Which, since it is in some way taking Arrested Development's spot, I hate!!). I sat down and had to endure the 10 mins of commercials before the trailers. Fine. Then I saw a solid 10mins of trailers. None of them good. Except Star Wars. Fine. Then the movie is about to start or so I thought. What the crap!! Its an American Dad short of some kind. BULLSHIT!!! Any and all ads, which this basically was...In the guise of a short animated thing, must come BEFORE the trailers. This enraged me. Especially since I have experienced 'The Twenty', which I will get to later as well. So I say Boo you Twentieth Century Fox and all your other Fox companies. Forget that the show is Family Guy but worse. Forget that people already have a hard time stomaching the 20 mins of trailers and commercials. Even forget that you might be taking the best show you ever had off the air(Arrested Development). But don't ever put what I consider to be an Advert AFTER the trailers. How dare you Fox, How dare you...So again, I say...BOO! (and not in the spooky ghost way.)

Arrested Development...

Is the greatest show ever. Forgive all previous reviews that do not follow this scale.

Categories\Maximum Points

Cinematography\5
Soundtrack\5
Artistic Value\5
Acting\10
Story\10
Hot Stuff (T&A or Extreme Violence)\5
Entertainment Value\10

Total 50\50

Overall Rating 100\100

I call this a semi-permanent system because it will mos def change as time goes on... Because it wouldn't be Parted Thinking, if it didn't change. Some may ask why I don't have a different scale for DVD's since they have ton's of extras. Two reasons. 1) Frankly, I watch or buy a movie for the movie not for the extras. And unless it is a movie I am really interested in, I probably wont check out most of the extras. B)There is such a thing as too much. If I wanna look up actor bios, or promotional pics for the movie...I'll use whats called the internet. Seriously...These are what, in my opinion should be on the DVD; Commentary, deleted scenes, outakes and featurettes that are actually about something we will care about, not an advert for the film! So that's why I wont rate extras...Cause that's what they are...Extra!
Movies, Movies, Movies...

Saw three movies last thursday. Here is my take.

The Upside of Anger - This is the tale of an angry mother, Terry, played by Joan Allen, who's husband has just left her. The story becomes the struggle Terry has raising her four daughters and the strain in all their relationships. Upon realizing her husband has left her, she turns to booze. In many of the early scenes she is drunk. But fortuantly, a friend of her husband, Denny, played by Kevin Costner, is also a drunk. So they can drink together and we all know where two people drinking inevitably leads. Thats pretty much the story, plus minor and major occurances in Terry's four daughter's lives that get some sort of reaction out of their mother, which in most cases is just her being mean by accident. Overall the movie was ok. Just ok. It wasnt great. A friend said she was uninterested at the beginning. This is because, they want you to feel bad for her right away, without really any backstory. So by the time you start getting involved in the story its a solid 25 mins in. Acting all around was pretty good. Must give props to Joan Allen and Kevin Costner for acting like good drunks. Although Kevin Costner has played a baseball player in some capacity in just about every other movie he has been in ...come on Kev, its time you reach back to your roots...Waterworld 2, my friend...We're dying for it. Final point of contention, the 4 daughters, all of them pretty, most of them hot. They were basically wearing winter coats the entire movie....come on. By the way Evan Rachel wood...SMOKIN!! (Unless she is not 18 yet, which in that case, get your mind out of the gutter) I guess its a chick flick, so I shouldnt expect more. Final Rating: 5/10

Steamboy
This is the follow up to Akira for director, Katsuhiro Ôtomo. Its the story of a young inventor in London during the 1800's. His father and grandfather are both inventors and come up with this extremelly powerful invention called 'the steamball'. Now Rei, the young inventor, has come into the posession of this device and their are multiple groups of people hunting it. Thats pretty much the story. Although it gets more confusing. Its easy to see why each group wants the very special ball. One group wants it to power their machine and the other group wants to stop them, and in the middle is Rei. I enjoyed the movie. The animation was really good. And i love how they blended the future and past. It was cool how they were technologically advanced but used items you could find in their time period. Steam being the main one. They are able to harness steam for all sorts of cool things. But here is where I come to my major point of contention. The great machine they build seems to have no use. I dont know why they would bother building it. While the movie was good overall. It lacked that certain something that Akira had. See it if your an anime fan but everyone else shouldnt bother. Rating 6/10

Sin City
This movie was amazing. First off, for those of you who dont yet know its based on Frank Miller's graphic novels of the same name. It weaves three seperate stories, and i think that makes it more watchable then other comic adaptions. Had they choosen one story and tried to expand it into a single movie, it would not have done the graphic novels justice. This movie mos def did Sin City justice. It is basically a live action comic book. The black and white coloring, with splashes of color throughout is breathtaking at points. The fact that this was done in digital and in front of a green screen, is the first step in the digital revolution in movie making. Major props to Robert Rodriquez for his amazing work on this film. And the fact he quit the Directors Guild of America just so he could make it, shows their are still artists out there who will choose their work first, insted of the stupid hollywood bureocrocy. The cast is jam packed with stars and all of them were great. Micky Rourke's career has been revived these past few years and he does an amazing job, as my favorite character Marv. I dont wanna say much more...just see this movie. Whether you like comics or not wont matter, this is a fun movie and all will enjoy it. Sidebar: It has lots of hot chicks in it. Jessica Alba...smokin!! Cant wait to see her in Fantastic Four later this summer. It will, without a doubt, be shut down. Although more likely is I will realize that I am the only one reading this crap and would do better to just talk to myself. Be if you do venture forth, and continue to read this poorly spelled and poorly gramaticized(?) blog, be prepared for an adventure of life time. "Touch not, yet yee be touched."
